Canada-based engineering and construction firm Dessau-Soprin has been awarded a contract for the design and engineering of Hidrosur’s Rucatayo hydroelectric power plant in southern Chile.

The project, estimated at more than US$70M, includes two turbo-generators with a nominal capacity of 60MW, producing more than 300GWh of electricity per year. Work will include the design of a 36km long 220kV power line to link the plant to an existing substation.

Chilean firm Ingentra, a subsidiary of Dessau-Soprin, will design the project in consortium with EDIC Ingenieros of Santiago. Work, to begin this month, is expected to be completed by summer 2007.
