The Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. Ltd. is to build a gas fired power and desalination plant in the coastal region of Ruwais, 230 km west of the capital, Abu Dhabi City.
A turnkey contract for the 500 MW plant has been placed with ABB.
The project will involve expansion of the oil company’s Ruwais refinery power plant, increasing the power generating capacity to 700 MW. The desalination plant will supply up to 36 million l of water each day to the refinery.
The plant will comprise four GT13E2 gas turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators and desalination equipment. Commercial operation of the plant is scheduled to begin in 2000.
