China’s Gezhouba Water and Power Group has signed a US$46.3M contract with the Department of Hydroelectric Power of Myanmar to build the 790MW Yeywa hydro power project, reports local media.

Yeywa will be located on the Myitnge river and will be the largest hydroelectric project in Myanmar. Gezhouba Water and Power is contracted to build a reinforced concrete dam and supply machinery equipment.

The 790MW (4 x 195MW) project will generate 3500GWh/yr. Electricity will be transmitted around the country through Kyaukse, Meikhtila and Mandalay on 230kV double cable lines.

The contract is the fourth for the Yeywa project. Three previous contracts totalling US$127.2M have been signed by other Chinese companies to supply steel structures, turbines and transformers.
