During his visit to India, Nepal’s prime minister, Girija P Koirala, discussed some long standing differences on dams and hydro projects with Indian officials. Nepalese politicians claimed that the reservoir created by the Laxmanpur dam, built in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in 1998, flooded many villages in Nepal. The power sharing agreement for the Tanakpur hydro project, which is expected to require the construction of the highest dam in the world, was also discussed.
