Under the 42-month $307m contract, CWE will construct a 60MW (30MW*2) hydropower plant which will have an annual generating capacity of 216 million kWh.
The project also includes the construction of a 34m-high dam composing of a river-bed concrete dam section and earth-rock dam section on both sides, a reservoir with a storage capacity of about 46 million cubic meters, as well as a substation and a 64km-long 161kV transmission line.
The Hemang hydro project will be constructed on the Pra River in Ghana’s western region, where it would help ease the area’s erratic power supply.
The company said the contract signing marks its new firm step in the water and hydropower field following its projects with regard to electrification, highway and municipal water supply in Ghana.
