Brazilian power generator CPFL Energia plans to invest US$175M to build four small hydro plants in the coming 30 months.

The four plants, to be built in Rio Grande do Sul state, will have 76MW of total installed capacity. CPFL expects to secure the licenses for the four plants in late 2008 or early 2009.

If expansion plans go ahead the Sao Paulo based utility would have a total generation capacity of 2174MW by 2010.
