The tender committee of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom has announced up results of the tender for construction and installation of the start-up facility of the Pilot Demonstration Centre (PDC) for recycling of used nuclear fuel to be sited at the Mining and Chemical Combine (MCC) in Zheleznogorsk, MCC said. The two bidders were SNPO Eleron (part of Rosatom) and Bureyagesstroy. Eleron won the tender and it will build the second PDC start-up facility (PK-2), the Vestnik GKhK periodical said on 5 August.

Petr Protasov, deputy director for capital investments of MCC, said that before the end of 2016 the principle contractor should “fulfil the PK-2 PDC construction and installation programme worth over RUB1bn ($15m) allocated by the federal budget”. Two more tenders on the PDC project have been issued relating to equipment supply and project and survey activities. Their results will be announced in August.
Construction of PDC on the site of the isotopic and chemical plant of MCC has been under say since summer 2013. At the end of 2015, the construction of the first start-up facility was completed. Its production capacity will be 5t a year of used VVER-1000 fuel. The capacity of the second start-up facility will be 250t a year.
