The wind farms have a combined installed capacity of 114MW and ther development is expected to cost $250m.

Energy produced from the wind farms will be sold under a 20-year dollar-denominated long-term power purchase agreements under the country’s renewable energy resource program.

ContourGlobal president and CEO Joseph Brandt commented that the projects complement the company’s regional generation and renewable footprint in Brazil and Colombia.

"Cupisnique and Talara bring us into the dynamic and fast growing Peruvian economy whose continued impressive growth requires an increasing supply of reliable and low cost electricity," added Brandt.

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has been appointed the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the two wind farms that are expected to be operational in 2013.
