Development of a 2000 MW gas-fired power plant in India’s Gujurat state has been given environmental clearance by the government.

The Nana Layja power plant is being developed by the Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) group as part of a larger power and infrastructure project near the town of Mandvi on India’s north-western coast.

Its plans also include the construction of a 4000 MW coal-fired power plant, a 60-million-litres-per-day desalination plant, a shipping terminal and an LNG terminal at Mandvi. The coal-fired power plant and desalination plant received environmental clearance in 2015.

The gas-fired unit will employ combined cycle technology and burn LNG, IL&FS said.
