Located approximately 60km from the city of Calama in the Chilean region of Antofagasta, the $215m wind project is expected to generate over 295GWh of electricity per year to the power needs of about 130,000 homes in Chile.
Planned to be commissioned by the end of 2016, the facility is being developed as part of the company’s growth targets set out in its existing business plan.
Enel will deliver the energy generated from the wind farm to Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande (SING).transmission network, located in Chile’s northern region.
Earlier this year, EGP signed a $3.5bn agreement with the Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (Endesa Chile) to supply electricity and green certificates.
At present, EGP has approximately 600MW of operational portfolio in Chile including 340MW of wind power, 154MW PV solar and 92MW from hydropower.
Separately, Enel has closed an agreement to create a joint venture with F2i SGR. The deal follows an agreement signed in October this year.
The equally owned joint venture has an installed capacity portfolio of 207MW.
