The construction of a new 7.5MW hydroelectric power plant started in La Kha commune in the Vietnamese Central Highlands province of Gia Lai in late May, according to the Vietnamese News Agency.

The plant, to be completed in June 2006, will cost US$10.1m to construct. Its dam will be 437m long and 36m high, with a reservoir of 31Mm3 capacity. The plant will generate 36.5MkWh of electricity each year.
