Caroni-based power company EDELCA has awarded a consortium comprising Italy's Impregilo (40% share), Brazil's Odebrecht (45%), Venezuela's Vinccler C.A. (10%) and CBPO Engenharia Ltda (5%) the contract for construction of the 2160MW Tocoma hydro facility in Venezuela.

The contract, worth US$968M, was provisionally awarded after an international tender.

The project will involve construction of a 300m long, 82m high concrete dam and associated hydroelectric plant. Impregilo is already engaged in preliminary works in preparation for construction of the dam.
