The new cooling tower, which replaces inefficient dry coolers, eliminates the humidification process to a great extent and reduces the carbon footprint of the data center along with a reduction in electrical usage, the company said.

The cooling tower recycles water in the data center air handling units used to absorb the heat created by IT equipment through evaporation process when the warmed water returns to the top of the tower and draws the heat out of the water, returning the temperature to an appropriate, cooler level.

Jason Sampson, regional data center manager of Consonus, said: “The cooling tower is part of an overall energy efficiency initiative underway at all of our data centers. We’re excited to have this project completed and are already seeing the benefits of it.”
