The Republic of Congo has inaugurated the Imboulou hydropower station located north of the capital city of Brazzaville.

The facility is located on the Lefini river of Congo and consists of four hydroturbine units with a total installed capacity of 120MW.

The construction of the power project started in 2005 and the facility is due to produce 876 million kWh of electricity per year.

The $377m plant was built by China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corporation and is 85%-funded with soft loans by China, Reuters reported.
