DEREGULATION

The Senegal government will invite bids for a stake in the state electricity company SENELEC on 29 January. The privatisation process is expected to be completed by 31 March.

According to sources close to the state privatisation board, ElectricitÇ de France and Hydro Quebec are interested in the sale, Reuters reports. The government expects to retain no more than 40 per cent of the shares.

The privatisation sparked trade union action last year, after which 26 trade unionists were arrested.
