The electricity line will transport energy from Cordoba, Colombia along the Caribbean coast to Panama and will also be able to carry electricity to other Central American countries.
The Colombian firm Interconexion Elesctrica (ISA) and the Panamanian Empresa de Transmision Electrica (ETESA) will oversee the construction and financing for the project.
ETSEA’s share of funding will be borne by the Panamanian government which will provide an initial $90m and an additional $120m as collateral.
Construction of the transmission line is scheduled to be completed by 2014.
