With the project completion, the Yavuz hydroelectric power station, a run-of-river hydroelectric plant on the Yesilirmak River in the province of Amasya in the Republic of Turkey, has been approved for commercial operation by the Government of Turkey.
In June of this year, Masat secured an $80m project financing from Yapi Kredi Bankasi, of Istanbul, Turkey, to complete the construction of two run-of-river hydroelectric generating projects, including Yavuz and the 33.4MW Midilli hydro power project.
While Yavuz is ready for commercial operation, the Midilli station is still in the construction phase and is expected to be placed into service in late 2011.
Cogentrix president Thomas Bonner said that Cogentrix has made a significant commitment to hydroelectric generation in the nation of Turkey and is very pleased with the Yavuz station being accepted for commercial operation.
