CNSC said that public hearings for the license renewal of Bruce Power’s nuclear station are scheduled for February 4 or 5, 2015 in Ottawa and April 14-16, 2015 in Kincardine.
The licenses for the Bruce A and B stations are set to expire on October 31, 2014.
According to CNSC, Bruce Power had urged for the extension to ensure that all relevant documentation was available in time to facilitate more meaningful public participation in the upcoming public hearing process, scheduled for September 2014.
The use of nuclear energy and materials is regulated by the CNSC to protect the health, safety and security of Canadians; to implement Canada’s international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy; and to disseminate objective scientific, technical and regulatory information to the public.
Bruce Power’s Bruce A and B nuclear generating stations is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Huron, Ontario.
