Construction of the refining unit reportedly serves as an important strategic project in safeguarding China’s energy security.

The project, which was launched in February 2005, has seven production units. Matching plants have been completed and put into operation successfully, at a cost of RMB10.7 billion.

With the start-up of the new hydrocracker unit, Dalian Petrochemical’s crude oil processing capacity has been increased by 95%. It can now process 16 million tons of sour crude every year, rather than just sweet crude. All these efforts have enhanced China National Petroleum Corporation’s (CNPC) ability to optimize production.

Beginning August 2008, Dalian Petrochemical will start processing high-sulfur crude from Kuwait, with an expected processing capacity of 10,000 metric tons per day.
