The plant will produce 1MW/h of power from 1 September 2010, increasing to 1.5MW/h by October.
The company has power purchase agreements for the sale of peak and off-peak electricity, along with the sale of the bi-product (compost).
The biomass power plant uses chicken litter as a feedstock which is converted into methane gas through an anaerobic process and the methane gas is then used to power the plant’s GE Jenbacher turbine engines.
Clenergen said that it intends to install an additional gas engine at the plant, since the digestive process has the capacity to generate above 1.5MW/h without further modifications required.
