The project involves construction of n approximately 750m overhead, direct current transmission line that is expected to deliver up to 3,500MW of renewable power from Kansas to communities and businesses in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and states farther east.
ABB has been named as the preferred supplier to manufacture alternating current transformers for the Grain Belt Express transmission collector system, where new wind farms will connect to the project in Kansas.
General Cable has bee tasked with production of steel core for the transmission line conductor and management of ongoing inventory and logistics at its Sedalia, Missouri facility, US.
HPS will manufacture the hardware and the core of the polymer insulators at its Centralia, Missouri facility for the transmission line.
Clean Line President Michael Skelly said the company is committed to sourcing as many of the
needed materials as possible from local companies in the Grain Belt Express project area.
”We look forward to continuing to work with Missouri authorities, state leaders and communities as our project progresses,” Skelly added.
Missouri Department of Economic Development Director Mike Downing said, ”Cutting-edge projects like the Grain Belt Express Clean Line will help sustain Missouri’s manufacturing sector and create good paying jobs right here in Missouri.”
Apart from supporting Missouri’s manufacturing base, the Grain Belt Express project will also spur demand for 2,000 new wind turbines, while creating jobs for Missouri’s wind energy companies.
