Alstom is to build a 833 MW supercritical lignite-fired power plant in Belchatow, Poland, for Polish utility BOT Elektrownia Belchatow as part of a contract worth more than €900 million.

When it begins commercial operations in October 2010, the new plant will be the largest ever built in the country.

Alstom will design, build and commission the new lignite-fired power plant, which will achieve efficiencies of up to 42%, on a turnkey basis and will manufacture and supply all the main equipment, including the supercritical boiler, the steam turbine, the turbo generator and the control system.

The low NOx boiler will be integrated with a wet flue gas desulphurisation system to meet emission levels required by the EU’s Large Combustion Plant Directive.
