China Three Gorges Corporation, the power station’s operator, said that the No. 8 unit, part of the first batch of generators, is currently undergoing testing.
As the country’s third-largest hydropower station behind the Three Gorges and Xiluodu hydropower stations, the plant was constructed with eight 800,000KW generators.
Xiangjiaba is located on the Jinsha River, which is a Yangtze River tributary in southwest China.
Once all generators achieve full operational capacity, the hydro station is projected to produce 30.8 billion kwh a year annually.
The station will supply the power generated to Sichuan and Yunnan provinces and to the eastern regions of China.
