Shaanxi Electric Power Co is planning to invest some Rmb 27 billion ($3.25 billion) over the next five years developing a new 330 kV power grid in the province of north western China.

The investment is focussed on removing weaknesses in the grid, especially in the southern and northern parts, and the new grid will connect the coal and power centres at Binchang and Yulin.

Furthermore, the grid will reach Henan province east of Shaanxi and will become part of a national ultra-high voltage grid in 2010.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated story, China has created a unified transmission network by linking the three regional grids of north, northwest and central China.
