By the end of 2006 China's installed generation capacity is expected to exceed 600GW, according to the China Electricity Council (CEC).

According to state media, Wang Yonggan, secretary-general of the CEC, estimates that some 80GW of additional capacity will begin operation this year with more than 60GW already begining operation in the first three quarters. Of this some 6.9GW is hydro power and 52.8GW coal-fired.

China produced 2011TWh in the first three quarters, up 12.9% from the same period last year.
