Under the terms of a bilateral arrangement, the Chinese government and the Export-Import Bank are expected to provide around $570m.

Commenting on the development, Uganda Energy Ministry’s Electric Power assistant commissioner Henry Bidasala said that the agreement is expected to be closed by the end of August 2013.

In addition, the hydropower project, which is being constructed downstream from Bujagali dam, will feature a 132MKV power transmission line that connects to Bujagali.

When completed, the Isimba hydropower project is expected to be the fourth largest of its type in Uganda.
