China is keen to invest in Russia's hydroelectric sector, the speaker of the Russian State Duma Boris Gryzlov said following talks with Premier of the Chinese State Council Wen Jiabao.

According to Gryzlov, the Chinese side is ready to invest US$12B in Russia until 2020. A delegation of the State Duma headed by speaker Gryzlov arrived in China on Thursday, with talks focussing on subjects including China’s investments in Russia’s hydroelectric sphere.

Gryzlov spoke of the China’s energy concerns and said that the Chinese side sees the investments as beneficial for getting electricity from Russia at a later date.
