China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) on 23 May signed has a framework agreement to build Sudan’s first commercial nuclear reactor, during a three-day visit to Sudan by Nur Bekri, director of China’s National Energy Administration, Chinese media reported. Sudan's Ministry of Energy and Mines initiated a nuclear power programme in 2007, and in 2010 Sudan began considering the feasibility of a NPP with four 300-600MWe units to be operating by 2030. The Sudan Atomic Energy Commission has been consulting the International Atomic Energy Agency on introducing nuclear energy. In July 2015, the government's Geological Research Authority said that uranium exploration was a high priority and that any mining would be undertaken by Russian companies.
