The completion of the expansion brings Tengizchevroil’s daily crude production capacity to 540,000 barrels. The first phase of expansion, accomplished earlier in 2008, increased daily capacity from approximately 310,000 barrels to 400,000 barrels.
The sour gas injection (SGI) operations and the crude processing portion of the second generation plant (SGP) have been successfully put in service for several months while the natural gas and sulfur processing portions of the SGP were being completed and commissioned.
The SGP’s facilities are expected to stabilize and sweeten crude oil, as well as separate and process natural gas into gas products and elemental sulfur. The SGI process reinjects one-third of the produced sour gas into the reservoir at very high pressures to help preserve reservoir pressure.
