The publication reported that Centrica is mulling the bid as a British response to other possible bids, including bids from European utility majors EDF, RWE and Iberdrola.

British Energy (BE) has confirmed that it is in talks with potential buyers, at a time when European utilities are consolidating across the industry. BE remains a key player in the UK nuclear power industry and is part of the UK government’s plans for setting up new reactors across the country, according to the news source.

The Times noted that UK ministers are seeking to ensure that BE’s potential suitor will maintain the fleet of the existing reactors and also work towards extending their operational life.
