UK-based gas supplier Centrica is in talks to build a new 400MW power station near Rotterdam, according to recent reports.

The firm, which owns British Gas, has held talks with independent player InterGen though no deal has yet been agreed.

According to a report from the AFX news agency, Centrica would buy the electricity generated by the plant using its Oxxio subsidiary. It would also provide the gas required to run the plant.

InterGen would own and operate the station under an agreement similar to that covering another InterGen facility at Spalding, Lincolnshire, UK.

Centrica hopes the plant will be completed by 2009, though a spokesman told AFX that no deal could be confirmed yet as talks were still ongoing.
