Under the more than $80m contract, the company’s scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning of non-cryogenic storage tanks for the Ichthys LNG facilities located in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.

Chicago Bridge and Iron Fabrication Services executive vice president and group president Luke Scorsone said, "This award builds on CB&I’s involvement in many of the major LNG and other oil and gas projects in this region, and we are well positioned to support the infrastructure development needs of these important projects."

The $34bn Ichthys LNG project is under construction to develop the Ichthys field in the Browse Basin, offshore Western Australia.

The field is estimated to hold 12.8 trillion cubic feet of gas and 527 million barrels of high value condensate.

INPEX is the operator of the project with 76% interest, while its joint venture partner, Total holds 24%.

The project, which is being implemented in Darwin, is scheduled to begin production by the end of 2016 and have an annual output of 8.4 million tons at its peak.
