Cavico, a Vietnam-based infrastructure development company, has provided updates on its key construction projects at Ta Trach reservoir, Dambri Hydropower and A Luoi Hydropower plants.

Cavico said that it used the new Austrian tunneling method to excavate and construct a 295mt long and 17.45mt high diversion tunnel at the Ta Trach reservoir, which is located on the upper part of Huong (Perfume) river in Thua Thien Hue province.

The reservoir is the second project in the central region of Vietnam and belongs to Hydropower management, a part of ministry of agriculture and farming.

The company completed the service road that leads traffic from the main road to the construction site and a bridge that is 33mt long and 7mt wide, at the the Dambri Hydropower plant.

The $80m plant, which is located 87 miles northeast of Ho Chi Minh city in Da Huoai village, near Da Teh city in Lam Dong province of Vietnam, is owned by Southern Hydropower joint stock company and will have 75MW of capacity.

Cavico used the modern technology of Robbins 61R to drill a vertical shaft that is 128mt long and 4.54mt diameters wide at the A Luoi Hydropower plant, which is owned by central Hydropower Joint Stock is located in Thua Thien Hue province, 43 miles west of Hue city and 100 miles northwest of Da Nang city.

The plant will have a capacity of 170MW and is expected to become operational at the end of 2012.

Hai Thanh Tran, vice president of Cavico, said: “The completion and handing over of the above packages at these critical projects is an important step in the overall construction process for Cavico.

“Projects are typically done in phases and once a phase has been completed, the owners will inspect and certify the scope and quality of our work and remit payment for that portion of the contract.”
