As expected, Enron has confirmed that the explosion in August as a result of which three men died at its Teesside power plant occurred during a process to close a circuit breaker while switching of a transformer. Enron is basing its conclusions on its own investigation and that of the Health and Safety Executive, who have now left the site and will be preparing a report to the Coroner’s court. That report however will not be published until after the inquests into the three deaths, nor will any decision be made before then about possible prosecutions.

The Health & Safety Executive also said it would be making an assessment of whether there were lessons to be learned from the tragic accident for the electricity generation industry in general.

The plant has now returned to normal operation.
