A Supreme Court ruling backing the development of the Cape Wind project off the US coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts has given the troubled installation a significant boost.

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court issued a ruling reaffirming the May 2005 decision of the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board (MEFSB) approving the construction and operation of undersea transmission lines to serve the wind farm.

The project received another welcome development with the news that the staunchly opposed Republican governor has lost out in recent elections to Democrat Deval Patrick.
