With all additional mine work identified in September 2013 completed, construction is essentially complete.

Scheduled to commence ore production at Cigar Lake during the first quarter of 2014, Cameco has commissioned ore for the underground mining while process equipment continues.

The Cigar Lake mine ore will be transported 70km by truck to the McClean Lake mill for processing to uranium concentrate during production.

The McClean Lake mill is majority owned and operated by AREVA, the company said.

Currently, work on required mill modifications is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2014, following which milling of Cigar Lake ore begins, AREVA reported.

Operated by Cameco, the Cigar Lake uranium project is owned by Cameco (50.025%), AREVA Resources (37.1%), Idemitsu Canada Resources (7.875%) and TEPCO Resources (5%).
