The upgrade project has secured approval from the California Public Utilities Commission, and is expected to be complete in mid-June.
The water mains are being replaced due to leak history, as well as to improve water quality and fire flows in the area, the company said.
California American Water general manager Eric Sabolsice said based on the number of leaks in the area and the material and age of this water main, the company has identified this replacement as a necessary and cost-effective investment in our water system.
The 4-inch diameter underground water pipes will be replaced with 8-inch PVC pipes, and new pipes will be placed parallel to existing pipes so that water service may be maintained during construction.
