The company will be delivering Hyde Guardian systems for 10 Suez-Max crude oil tankers starting in 2011 through 2013.
The Hyde Guardian system is a chemical free BWT system that uses filtration and ultraviolet disinfection to treat ships’ ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive species from port to port.
The company received International Maritime Organization type approval in 2009 for the Hyde Guardian unit, which was also used by the US Coast Guard in its Step program in October 2008.
Calgon Carbon chairman, CEO and president John Stanik said that this is an important order for Hyde Marine in the BWT market as it expands the range of application of Hyde Guardian technology in both capacity and vessel type.
“I believe we are establishing a very strong global reputation that will position us as a major player in this new multi-billion dollar emerging market,” Stanik said.
