The waste power plant of 168MW capacity will be the largest in the country, said B&W Vølund.

It will be constructed in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province of China.

B&W Renewable senior vice president Paul Scavuzzo said: “The demand for reliable and clean renewable energy is growing in China and throughout much of Asia. We thank Shenzhen Energy for choosing B&W Vølund to provide state-of-the art technology for this plant.”

Once commissioned, the plant is said to deliver a proven and durable waste management solution for the region besides producing clean, renewable energy.

The commercial operations of the waste power plant are slated to begin in the middle of 2019. About 5,600 tons of municipal waste will fuel the plant daily.

As part of the contract, B&W Vølund will be responsible for the equipment supply for the plant which includes a combustion grate system dubbed as DynaGrate. It will also supply burners along with other boiler components for the plant.

The Danish company will offer construction advisors as well for Shenzhen’s combined heat and power plant.

According to B&W, the plant will be circular in shape and will have rooftop solar panels, an observation platform and a visitor education center.

The waste-to-energy plant will be designed by Danish firms Gottlieb Paludan Architects and Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects.

In March, its parent company headquartered in North Carolina, US, through its local subsidiary was awarded a contract of over $80m to supply a supercritical boiler and other components for the Zambales Province, Philippines located Masinloc Thermal Power Plant.
