The Construction Industry Research and Information Association has elected five new members to its council in the UK. In their new roles, DJ Blamforth from Montgomery Watson, D Cowie from Binnie black-veatch, NJK Davies from Kvaerner Construction, RD Jarvis from WS Atkins Consultants and M Roberts from BAA, will help to determine the strategy, policy and financial management of the Association.

UK consulting engineers, Robert H Cuthbertson & Partners, has merged its business into the Maunsell Group. The new company will trade as Cuthbertson Maunsell, a subsidiary of environmental engineering firm Balfour Maunsell.

Other company changes include the appointment of Kevin Sierwald as business development manager at Wier Engineering Services in the UK, while Martin Dingley (left) has been made engineering director at international water engineering company Paterson Candy. Across the Atlantic in the US, Raytheon Engineers & Constructors has ap- pointed George L Nash (above right) as vice president of business development in its power group.

US earthquake instrumentation company Kinemetrics, has also just acquired a Mass-achusetts-based firm as a fully owned subsid-iary. Quanterra, which designs and manufactures high resolution seismic instrumentation, has been working with Kinemetrics on several major projects for the past few years.

Finally, the UK Concrete Repair Association (CRA) has updated its guidance noted called The route to a successful concrete repair. Targeting surveyors, engineers and those responsible for the maintenance of buildings and structures, the guide provides useful information about how to repair reinforced concrete.
