Brazilian biodiesel producer BSBIOS has exported first shipment of the biodiesel of 22 tons to the Rotterdam Harbor, in the Netherlands.

The company claims that it is the first commercial of biodiesel export from Brazilian Biodiesel Industry.

Commenting on the milestone, BSBIOS CEO Erasmo Carlos Battistella said the event marks a significant step in the market opening.

"There are many difficulties, with relation to taxes mainly, and cost Brazil that make negotiations difficult with the European market," added Battistella.

"But this is an important advance we need to fulfill to demonstrate that Brazil can also export biodiesel."

BSBIOS was the first Brazilian company to have been awarded authorization from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels – ANP to export biodiesel.

BSBIOS operation director Gabriel Machado remarked: "This was just the beginning, the first drop of biodiesel; we want to conquer new markets."

A biodiesel joint venture between BSPAR and Petrobras Biofuel, the company produces 343 million liters of biodiesel per annum.
