The Gosfield Wind Limited Partnership, a wholly owned subsidiary of Brookfield Renewable Power, intends to build, own and operate a 50MW wind power facility in the town of Kingsville in Essex County, Ontario.
Brookfield Renewable Power has received environmental and municipal approvals for the Gosfield wind project. Upon completion, the project is expected to produce renewable power for 15,000 homes annually, claims the company.
Harry Goldgut, chairman of Brookfield Renewable Power, said: “Wind power is an integral part of Brookfield Renewable Power’s business strategy and we are pleased to build another renewable energy project in Ontario.”
Earlier in November 2008, The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, announced the funding of more than $53 million at the Prince Wind Energy Farm, which is owned by Brookfield Power. The farm was qualified for the one cent per kilowatt-hour incentive under the ecoENERGY for Renewable Power initiative.
Brookfield Renewable Power, wholly-owned by Brookfield Asset Management, claims to have more than 100 years of experience as an owner, operator and developer of hydroelectric power facilities. Its total portfolio includes 160 generating facilities with approximately 4,000 megawatts of capacity. Its operations are primarily located in North America and Brazil.
