Brookfield Power (previously Brascan Power) has signed an agreement to acquire two hydroelectric facilities totalling almost 40MW capacity in the US state of Maine.
The US$144M transaction with Rumford Falls Power Company, owned by NewPage Corporation, is conditional on approvals of regulatory agencies and is expected to close in mid 2006.
The run-of-river hydro facilities are located on the Androscoggin river in Maine and generate approximately 270GWh annually.
