British Energy commented that the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s (NDA) Magnox nuclear power stations in Wylfa and Oldbury are forecast to generate approximately 7TWh per year over the period of the agreement, which is expected to last until 2011. According to Reuters, these sites are two of the oldest nuclear power stations in Britain.
Mark Leggett, commercial director at the NDA, said: The agreement provides the NDA with certainty and confidence in the continuity of trading services with a service provider that understands the complexity of managing and trading nuclear output.
Neil O’Hara, trading director at British Energy, added: I am delighted that British Energy has been successful in signing this agreement to provide support and assistance to the NDA to market its output. This increases the depth and diversity of the portfolio we manage.
The NDA was set up in April 2005 under the 2004 Energy Act. Its principal function is to take responsibility for the UK’s nuclear legacy by shutting down and cleaning up the region’s mature nuclear facilities.
