British water and environmental consultant, Mott MacDonald, has won the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement for the second time in three years. In 1997 the company’s overseas earnings from 111 countries, climbed to £150M.

The Queen’s Award for Export Achievement is made on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to UK firms. It is an acknowledgment of a substantial and sustained increase in export earnings, considered to be at an outstanding level for the size of the applicant’s operations.

International earnings are important to Mott Mac-Donald, accounting for over two-thirds of the company’s business.

Hydro projects which the company has worked on include dams in Cyprus, Jordan and Malaysia. Recently they have played a key role in supervising the design and construction of several components of the Lesotho Highlands water project in Africa. They have worked on the ‘Muela dam and hydro power station plus the 34km delivery tunnel which runs from Lesotho to South African.
