Aside from being a state law, recycling saves tax payer dollars. Recycling materials are processed at almost half the cost of rubbish.
The following streets will be converted to single stream recycling effective June 15, 2009: Acorn Lane, Beechwood Lane, Boulder Drive, Brentwood Drive, Carriage Road, Cherry Hill Drive, Country Lane, Cranberry Lane, Delmar Drive, Dogwood Lane, Driftwood Road, Felice Road, Fleetwood Road, Illinois Avenue north from Ohio Drive, Lufkin Lane, Maiden Lane, New Hampshire Drive, Ohio Drive, Old Farm Road, Plank Hill Road, Soucy Drive, Stafford Avenue from Route 6 north to the Burlington town line, Stevens Street, Strawberry Hill Road, Vermont Drive, Weeping Hill Drive, Woodchuck Lane.
As a cost savings effort, we will collect recycle bins when delivering new barrels so they can be re-used in other areas.
As part of the effort to increase recycling, we will also convert one area from paper only using blue barrels, to full single stream recycling. The area bordering Burlington Avenue that currently uses blue recycle barrels for paper and cardboard only (placing bottles, cans, and plastics in regular recycle bins) will convert to single stream recycling effective June 17, 2009. This area will be able to combine all recyclable materials in the blue barrels. More information will soon be published regarding these initiatives.
Households that will be converted will receive information and instructions with their new barrels.
