“I will not revoke [the requirements]. We are open to discussion to maybe make adaptations to the rules, but we are not going to revoke it,” reported the website quoting Roberto Messias Franco, president of the Brazilian environmental protection agency, Ibama.
The Environment Ministry has proposed a draft law where the thermoelectric power plants are required to go for reforestation efforts and invest in renewable energy to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions the fossil-fuel-burning plants generate.
It has been observed that almost 69% of Brazil’s electricity comes from hydro power plants.
