Brazil's federal authorities have begun a technical evaluation and assessment of all the country's public and private dams.

The federal Ministry of National Integration has announced, that it will collect data on each dam, and assess what dams need upgrading and repairs to prevent failures that could stem from natural causes, such as heavey precipitation and floods.

The assessment follows the recommendation of a federal committee tasked with drafting emergency flood actions following disastrous flooding earlier this year. The Ministry’s national drought-mitigation works department DNOCS and São Francisco and Parnaíba River valleys development company Codevasf are carrying out the onsite work
