The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) has proposed a new 500kV transmission line stretching between the McNary and John Day dams along the Columbia river in the US.

Both dams are on the Oregon side of the Columbia river, but most of the 127km line would run on the Washington side of the river, according to BPA, which identified the new line in a draft environmental impact statement in March 2002.

The plan is to start the new line at BPA’s McNary substation in Oregon and cross the river just north of the substation into Washington.

At the John Day dam, the line would again cross the river into Oregon and terminate at the Portland-based power provider’s John Day substation.
