Philip New, president of BP’s global biofuels division, told Reuters in an interview: Butanol appears to have the best balance of attributes, more energy efficiency, easier to blend and easier to transport.
BP is betting big on jatropha, a hardy plant that grows in semi-arid conditions without intensive farming requirements that makes it ideal for the developing world.
BP is also looking at a variety of sources for its biofuel initiative, including algae, which reportedly have vast potential and an effect on lowering CO2 levels, revealed Reuters.
